βœ¨πŸ“š Chat with your research (using AI)

Research any topic by saving and then chatting directly with webpages, readings, highlights and notes.

Chat with your research

AI tools like Reflect let you chat with anything you've saved to your notes.

That means you can research any topic by saving links, readings, highlights and notes, and then chat directly with the information. It works great for mastering a new concept, writing articles, or even just developing your own thinking.

Here's how to do it:

Step 1: Choose a topic or question

This could be anything: something new you want to learn, an obstacle you're dealing with at work, something you're trying to improve about yourself, etc.

The more targeted you make the topic, the better the research will be.

❌ Bad: "whales"

βœ… Good: "how do whale migration patterns differ by species?"

Step 2: Start finding information sources

This part will depend on you. You might read a book and take notes, or focus on academic links.

Make sure the information sources are ones you trust! This is the data and information you'll be chatting with.

ChatGPT makes a fantastic research partner. Use it with Superwhisper to make the process easier.

Step 3: Take notes and save the information you find useful

Sit down in a nice chair with some tea and start reading. Find the information that's useful to you across sources and save it. Save the source, and highlight the key information you'll want to chat with.

How to save certain sources:Β

β†’ Website link: Reflect Chrome Extension. You can do PDFs this way by opening them in a webpage.

β†’ Books: use same Chrome Extension or Readwise to sync your Kindle library (with notes and highlights)

β†’ YouTube videos: there are a bunch of custom GPTs that work well here. You can even use them to chat with a video transcript. Note you'll have to copy this info from ChatGPT into your notes.

Each time you save a new note, add a tag to it. For this example I'll use #whalemigration. You can add a tag when you save something, or after the fact.

Step 4: Chat with your research

Now that everything is saved, you can go into the advanced search and start chatting with your notes!

Select the tag you used so it knows which notes to pull information from. Then you can ask it questions, have it generate an article outline, whatever you want!

Chatting with your saved notes

Ask the chat to:

  • Summarize the learnings and key takeaways

  • Fill in pieces of missing information

  • Clarify what you don’t understand

  • Generate articles and outlines

  • Ask for advice and different perspectives

  • Much more!
